AMD Releases First Socket FM1 Athlon Processor

Officially as of yesterday, AMD's line of FM1 chips no longer includes 'only' A-Series APUs (accelerated processing units) as the Sunnyvale-based company went ahead and introduced an Athlon II CPU compatible with the FM1 socket.

Known as the Athlon II X4 631, the first non-APU FM1 product features four cores clocked at 2.6 GHz, 4MB of L2 cache, it lacks any kind of integrated graphics core, and bears a TDP rating of 100W. The X4 631 is compatible with A75 and A55-based motherboards and sell for just $79 in 1000-unit tray quantities.

AMD is supposed to be preparing more Athlons, as well as some Sempron CPUs for the FM1 platform so stay tuned.
